Torrevieja vs Orihuela Costa: which should you stay in? (and why Punta Prima is the cheat)

They share a coastline and a bus route, and people argue about them every summer. Here is the honest comparison, and why the answer for most families is the point where they meet.

In short

  • Torrevieja: a real Spanish town, walkable centre, markets, harbour, nightlife, busier beaches, cheaper apartments.
  • Orihuela Costa: resort urbanisations, quieter and newer, better coves, golf, La Zenia Boulevard, a car is useful.
  • Punta Prima sits on the line: villa streets, a calm beach on foot, town 12 minutes one way and the resorts 5 the other.

Who should pick which

Torrevieja if you want to walk out of the door into a Spanish town, eat tapas, use buses and never touch a car. Orihuela Costa if the holiday is pool, beach, golf and a quiet street, and you are happy to drive ten minutes for dinner. Families with small children usually want the second but miss the first by day three.

The cheat: Punta Prima

Punta Prima is where the municipalities meet. From Casa Fragata you walk four minutes to a calm sandy beach, five to a supermarket, and sit in a private walled garden on a quiet villa street. Torrevieja’s marina, markets and restaurants are twelve minutes by car or bus; La Zenia Boulevard, the coves and the golf courses five to fifteen. You do not have to choose. The Punta Prima guide has the detail.

Both, from one gate. The villa is at Punta Prima, 280 m from the beach, with La Zenia Boulevard five minutes by car. Check availability.
Staying nearby? Casa Fragata is a private pool villa at Punta Prima, 280 metres from the beach, between Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa. Check availability or see the villa.
