Ways to stay
Search for a villa with a pool in Torrevieja and you will find dozens in Los Balcones, Los Altos, La Torreta and Aguas Nuevas. Lovely pools; the beach is a taxi ride. Casa Fragata is the other kind: 280 metres from the sand.
The most common regret in Torrevieja villa reviews is distance. The inland urbanisations were built for the view and the price of land, not for the beach, so a "ten-minute drive" becomes twenty with parking, and a second trip for the forgotten bucket never happens. With children, that distance quietly decides how the week goes.
At Casa Fragata the decision is a flip-flop decision. Pool in the morning, beach after lunch, back for a shower before dinner, and nobody has to be the driver.
Out of the gate on Calle Fragata, turn towards the sea, and Avenida del Mar takes you straight down to Playa de Punta Prima. It is flat, on pavement the whole way, with a pram-friendly ramp onto the sand. The beachfront restaurant is where the road meets the beach, which makes it the obvious place for a late breakfast or a sunset drink.
Keep walking north along the coast for eleven minutes and you reach Cala Piteras, a small rocky cove for snorkelling; twelve minutes gets you to Nautilus, the seafront restaurant on the rocks at Rocío del Mar. South, the clifftop path reaches Playa Flamenca in twenty.
