Every Torrevieja beach, ranked: Los Locos, Cura, Náufragos, La Mata and the coves
Torrevieja has four big town beaches, a long wild one at La Mata, and a string of coves at the southern end where the coast turns into Orihuela Costa. Ranked for a normal holiday: sand, water, shade, food and hassle.

In short
Best all-round: Playa de Punta Prima for calm water and fewer people, Los Locos for space and snorkelling.
Best for children: Punta Prima and Playa del Cura (showers, shallow entry, restaurants).
Best for a long walk and waves: Playa de La Mata.
Best coves: Cala Piteras and Cala Capitán for snorkelling.
Blue Flags in 2026: Los Locos, Cura, Náufragos, La Mata, Punta Prima and Playa Flamenca (check the current list).
1. Playa de Punta Prima
Our home beach, 280 m from the villa. A sandy bay between two rocky points, so the water stays calmer than the open town beaches. Lifeguards in summer, showers, a restaurant on the sand, and a fraction of the crowds of Playa del Cura. The coastal path leads north to Cala Piteras and south to Playa Flamenca. Full Punta Prima guide.
2. Playa de los Locos
Torrevieja’s big northern beach, 760 m of sand with a rocky stretch at the north end for snorkelling and the beach bars across the road. The name comes from a sanatorium that once stood behind it. Busy but never full. Parking is hard in August; the bus along the seafront is easier.
3. Playa del Cura
The town beach, in the middle of everything: restaurants, ice cream, the promenade with the sculptures and the natural rock pools just south. Shallow, sandy and family-friendly, and the most crowded in summer. Great for a sunset walk even if you swim elsewhere.
4. Playa de La Mata
Two and a half kilometres of fine sand backed by dunes and a promenade, with a surf school, chiringuitos on the beach, and room to breathe even in August. The north end is quieter. 15 minutes by car from the villa, free parking behind the dunes.
5. Playa de los Náufragos
The southern town beach, long and sandy, where the promenade to the marina starts. Easy parking off-season, a few beach bars, a bit more wind. Seven minutes by car from Punta Prima.
6. Cala Piteras, Cala Ferrís and the Punta Prima coves
Small rocky coves on the coastal path between Punta Prima and Torrevieja. Clear water, good snorkelling, little sand, no facilities. Water shoes and a towel. Cala Piteras is 11 minutes on foot from the villa.
7. Playa del Acequión and Playa Cala Piteras
Acequión is the small beach by the harbour and salt-loading canal, calm and sheltered, popular with locals and paddleboarders. Fine for a swim before lunch at the marina.
8. South of Punta Prima: Playa Flamenca, La Zenia, Cala Capitán, Cabo Roig
Technically Orihuela Costa, practically next door. Playa Flamenca is a 20-minute clifftop walk from the villa; La Zenia and Cala Capitán are 7 minutes by car; Cabo Roig 8. The Orihuela Costa beach guide covers all eleven.
Walk to one, drive to the rest. Torrevieja marina is 12 minutes by car from the villa, and Punta Prima beach is four minutes on foot. Check availability.
