Murcia’s airport at Corvera opened in 2019 and is a small, calm alternative to Alicante, with flights from the UK and Ireland. It is 45 km from Punta Prima, 40 minutes by road, and the catch is that there is no direct bus to Torrevieja.
Leave the airport on the RM-19 and join the A-30 towards Cartagena, then the AP-7 / RM-12 east towards San Javier and Torrevieja; the AP-7 north brings you to the Orihuela Costa and Punta Prima exits. It is dual carriageway nearly all the way, 40 minutes outside rush hour, with the Mar Menor appearing on your right near the end.
Taxis wait outside the single terminal; the fare to Torrevieja and Punta Prima is around €65 to €80, cards usually accepted. Pre-booked transfers are a little cheaper and meet you inside; the airport is small enough that nothing goes wrong. Both are 40 minutes.
There is no bus from Corvera to Torrevieja. The airport bus goes to Murcia city bus station (about 40 minutes); from there regional buses run to Torrevieja (an hour or more) and on along the coast. Allow two and a half hours and a wait between them. Fine for one traveller with time; a taxi for a family.
Pick whichever has the cheaper flight at a sensible hour. Murcia is smaller, faster through security and the same drive time to Punta Prima; Alicante has ten times the flights and a direct bus. For a late-night arrival with children, Murcia’s quiet terminal and empty motorway are a pleasure.
