Torrevieja with kids: 20 things families actually enjoy

The secret to Torrevieja with children is a beach you can walk to and a pool that is yours, so the days out are a bonus rather than a necessity. With that sorted, here are twenty of them.

Torrevieja with kids: 20 things families actually enjoy

Sand and water

  1. Playa de Punta Prima, 280 m from the villa, calm and sandy with a restaurant doing ice cream.
  2. Playa del Cura and the rock pools on Paseo Juan Aparicio: shallow natural seawater pools kids love.
  3. Aquopolis, the water park, June to September.
  4. Pedal boats and kayaks on Playa del Cura and La Mata.
  5. Snorkelling at Cala Piteras or Cala Capitán with cheap masks from the Friday market.
  6. The pirate boat and glass-bottom boat trips from the harbour.
  7. Tabarca for older children: a boat, an island, clear water.
  8. Lo Pagán mud baths: getting covered in mud is officially allowed.

Land

  1. The S-61 Delfín submarine in the harbour, a real one, with the periscope.
  2. Flamingos on the La Mata lagoon trails, with hides.
  3. The salt train through the pink lake works.
  4. Karting on the N-332 for teenagers.
  5. Trampoline park and soft play in Torrevieja for the under-tens.
  6. Bowling, cinema and mini-golf at La Zenia Boulevard, five minutes from the villa and air-conditioned.
  7. Playgrounds all along the Torrevieja and Playa Flamenca promenades.
  8. The Friday market for pocket-money sunglasses and churros.
  9. Guardamar’s Reina Sofía park with free-roaming peacocks and squirrels, 20 minutes.
  10. Río Safari Elche, the zoo and splash park, 40 minutes.
  11. Terra Natura in Murcia, animals plus water park, 50 minutes.
  12. Ice cream on the paseo at 22:00, which is when Spanish children are still up.

Practicalities

Spanish restaurants welcome children at any hour and high chairs are normal. Pharmacies are excellent for minor illness; Farmacia Punta Prima is 7 minutes from the villa. Supermarkets stock familiar nappies and formula. Hire-car child seats should be booked ahead. The villa provides plastic pool cups and can usually arrange a cot and high chair.

A villa built for this. Walled garden, private pool with cabana, the beach in four minutes. See the family villa page.
Staying nearby? Casa Fragata is a private pool villa at Punta Prima, 280 metres from the beach, between Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa. Check availability or see the villa.
